I hope that you and your loved ones are staying well. With the Democratic and Republican National Conventions behind us and the presidential election only two months away, we know many of our clients are wondering how the election may affect their investments and questioning if they should make changes to their plan ahead of November. Granted, we haven’t had a presidential election during a pandemic in over 100 years, but historically, we typically experience only short-term effects on specific sectors in the stock market as investors try to anticipate potential changes in policy with the incumbent or a new administration.
History has demonstrated that the markets ultimately perform equally as well under either party in office. Raymond James’ Chief Investment Officer, Larry Adam, CFA, CIMA®, CFP® provides helpful commentary on what we can expect in the video below, Does the President Impact Your Long-Term Investments? I’m also including a link for Raymond James’ “2020 U.S. Election Policy Insights,” with helpful articles on policy and the economy.
After the market lows in March, we’ve seen a remarkable bounce-back of almost 35%. Throughout this volatile year, we continue to meet with clients to review their financial plans, ensuring they are both aware and comfortable with the risk in their portfolio allocations. It’s an essential conversation to have regularly and the amount of risk you’re willing to tolerate changes greatly as you age or your life circumstances change. If you haven’t met with us recently regarding your financial plan, please make an appointment so we can review your current allocations together.
From all of us at PFG, we hope that you and your loved ones enjoy the last few weeks of summer and continue staying well.
